What division will my child play in? Are there any specific requirements about each division?

6U Softball - League Age 5 and 6 years old – This league incorporates a combination of t-ball and coach pitch using an 11” softball. This is a great beginner league for young girls to begin to learn the basics of softball while having fun.

8U Softball – League Age 7 and 8 years old – This league consists of a combination of coach pitch and player pitch using an 11” softball.

10U Softball - League Age 9 and 10 years old – This league consists of all player pitch using a 11” softball. This league incorporates base stealing.

12U Softball - League Age 11 and 12 years old – This league consists of all player pitch increasing to the use of a 12” softball.

HS Softball – League Ages 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17 years old

*Softball League Age Determination: Age of the Player as of August 31 of the previous year. 

**Requests to move up age divisions can be made during the registration process however are subject to approval by the League Board of Directors.

 

When does the season start?

Coaches will reach out to their respective teams by the end of March with information about practice and schedule information. Practices begin the 1st week of April and games begin at the end of April.

 

When/where are practices?

The teams’ practices are set by the managers to accommodate their schedules and at designated fields at Mill Pomnd . Teams will typically have two practices per week prior to games starting and one practice per week once games begin. Practices can be on weeknights or on weekends depending on the team/coach.

 

When/where are games?

Games typically begin the last week of April and run thru the 2nd week of June for the regular season with an end of the year tournament finishing by the end of June. Each will play 12 regular season games – usually 6 home games and 6 away games. Central Girls Softball participates in the Porter County Softball League which includes the following other rec leagues: Kouts, LaWanna (Wanatah), Morgan Township, Central (Union Mills), Knox, Valparaiso, Washington Township, Westville and Wheeler. Games can be scheduled for any weeknight or Saturday, and the game schedule varies on a week-to-week basis. The league tries to schedule 2 games per week per team. There will not be any games scheduled during Memorial Day weekend. The High School age group games do not start until the conclusion of the IHSAA softball season.

 

When does the season end? Is there an end of season tournament?

At the conclusion of the regular season, the Porter County Softball League will host a tournament for each age division. The tournament begins in mid-June and will finish by the end of June. The High School age group season runs into mid-July due to the later start.

 

Where can I find the rules?

Central Girls Softball competes in the Porter County Softball League. You can reach out to your coach or any member of the Board of Directors for a copy.

 

Can I sign up to Manage or help Coach?

Yes! We are always looking for volunteers to help manage or coach a team. When registering your child, there is a section that allows you to indicate if you are interested in managing or coaching a team. All managers and coaches are subject to a background check and approval by the Board of Directors. Reach out to any Board member with any questions.

 

 

What does the league provide? What does my child need?

Uniforms: The league will provide a jersey and socks for each player's uniform. Each player will be responsible for providing their own softball pants, belt and cleats. Colors will be determined by each Team Manager. If You need pants or belts you can order it at sign up

Equipment: Each player is responsible for providing their own mitt, fielding face mask, helmets and bats.

What size mitt does my child need?

What size bat should I get my child?

Bat Length by Age:

  • 5–7 years: 24–26 in
  • 8–9 years: 26–28 in
  • 10 years: 28–29 in
  • 11–12 years: 30–31 in
  • 13–14 years: 31–32 in

Bat Weight by Age:

  • 8 years and under -12 to -14 drop
  • 8–14 years -12 to -10 drop
  • 14 years and up -11 to -8 drop
